■ What is Chirimen Silk? Chirimen is a classic, highly prized Japanese silk crepe known for its signature crimped texture (shibo) produced by highly twisted yarns. This unique structure gives the fabric a soft, stretchy resilience, a graceful matte luster, and a delightfully tactile feel that catches light and movement subtly.
■ Pattern & Technique Highlights: Chayatsuji & Bingata ・Chayatsuji Pattern (茶屋辻): A classic, prestigious design originally favored by high-ranking women of the samurai class in the Edo period. It features breathtaking landscape scenery—incorporating pavilions, flowing water, bridges, pine trees, and seasonal blossoms—rendered with refined, artistic detail.
Bingata Dyeing (紅型): A famed, traditional stencil-dyeing method originating from Okinawa (the former Ryukyu Kingdom). Known for its striking, vivid color palette and bold, dynamic motifs, Bingata brings brilliant life and tropical warmth to the detailed Chayatsuji landscape design.

■ Care Instructions Dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the distinct texture and deep color of Chirimen silk. If hand washing, gently wash in cold water with a neutral silk detergent—handle with extra care as un-set crepe can shrink slightly when wet—and iron on low heat while slightly damp without steam.
Additionally, as this is an authentic vintage item, it may carry a subtle vintage scent from storage or traditional mothballs, which will fade with gentle airing in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
